Oklahoma Tornado

Yesterday, disaster struck in Oklahoma. Tornadoes have directly hit communities. We are working with our BWB contacts in the area and as soon as we have a firm list of needs, we will post them. One thing we know they will need is money. If you would like to donate, you can paypal any donation to us at donate@bwbsea.com (or click the donate button on our website) and be sure to make a note that it is for OK. We will distribute all funds to our contacts in the midwest.

The BWB national team will be sending a team to help rebuild. If you are interested in being part of this team, please email us volunteer@bwbsea.com and we will make connections.

We will post when we have more details. Stay tuned guys, BWB goes in when it is no longer sexy to do so, after the red cross and media is gone. But, it takes planning and funds to do it!

May 2nd Sundays: Purrr

On May 12th, the BWBS crew went to Animal Talk Rescue in North Seattle and volunteered a few hours. When we were done, the rescue had been deep cleaned, the cat trees steamed cleaned and hearts were widened. Mops, brooms, sponges, people and cats!  Take a look at the photos to see the fun we had while cleaning the rescue! CLICK HERE FOR PICTURES BY ESPRESSO BUZZ

We are busy planning for June & beyond and hope you will join us every SECOND SUNDAY!

Special Notice

Dear Burning Man Community & BWBS Supporters:

During our annual audit of BWBS finances we found approximately $7000.00 in fraudulent activity.

Our 2012 Treasurer and board member, Sean Larson, has resigned from our board and we have notified the King County Sheriff's Office. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement in their investigation and have already implemented changes to ensure this cannot happen again. We are also working with our attorney to investigate whether any of the funds can be retrieved.

As soon as we have more information, we will share it with everyone, but that's all we have now. If you have questions, please call the BWBS phone line (253) 234-4292 and you will be connected with Diana (President) or Ozzy (Vice President).

We thank you for your continued support. We are dedicated to doing the right thing to continue to build your trust.

Sincerely,
The BWBS Board Of Directors

May Second Sundays!

BWBS Second Sundays: May
Sunday, May 12th
10am - 1pm

Animal Talk Rescue
6514 Roosevelt Ave NE, Seattle

Every Second Sunday, BWBS is organizing a way for YOU to just show up and put our "Civic Responsibility" Principle into action.

Yes, we know this is mother's day. But, what better way to celebrate your mom, than to spend 2-3 hours giving back!

This month, we are teaming up with Animal Talk Rescue! They are a no-kill cat/kitten rescue. Their space is in need of a good deep cleaning. Scrubbing the walls, floors, vacuuming, cleaning the counters, steam cleaning of the cat trees, etc. There are a couple small carpentry type things that could use to be done, so, if you have that skill and have a small tool set, bring it.

KIDS are WELCOME to come! :)

TIME CHANGE: We need to start at 10am, to accommodate their staff & customers coming in to adopt out kitties!

Second Sundays!

BWB Seattle introduces our new give back campaign called "Second Sundays" starting Sunday April 14th. On the 2nd Sunday of every month we will have a way for you to volunteer to help our community. We may clean a park, build a garden, fix a roof, paint a building and so on. I am spending today researching where we will start. I have contacted thus far five org's in Seattle who were very excited to hear from me. This is what we have been gearing up for. Please mark your calendar for Second Sundays, every month. Putting our "Civic Responsibility" Principle into action each month!

2013 Board of Directors

Greetings!
Burners Without Borders Seattle is happy to announce our 2013 Board of Directors!
President: Diana Kain (Plumeria)Vice President: Ozzy
Treasurer: John AllanSecretary: Jennifer KotilaMember At Large: Barak (El Presidente)
Member At Large: Jeanette DuBois

For those paying attention, you will notice that Dave Martinez (Diem) is no longer on our Board. Diem was the key person to getting BWBS going (and making us legal), but, he decided to step down as an actual board member, in order to spend time with that cute little girl of his. We are grateful to him & all our former board members for their kick ass volunteer service. You will still see Diem at our events, he just isn't responsible for things anymore. So, he has passed the torch.

Be on the look out for information about a fundraiser in a couple months, as well as information about SecondSundays; which will be a way for YOU to help the community every month! If you have a project you think BWBS should take on or have any questions, email us at volunteer@bwbsea.com! Thanks for supporting BWBS!

THANK YOU!

Sean here, the producer for Black Rock Equinox 6ix, and the very first thing I would like to say is a big, "Thank You', to everyone that attended, volunteered, and supported Burners Without Borders:Seattle at Black Rock Equinox 6ix this year!  The support from thecommunity was overwhelming, and I couldn't enjoy it more.

With your help, we raised $4007.60 for Burners Without Borders:Seattle!  The money we raised will go to help both local communities,as well as become part of the global Burners Without Borders funding. Specifically,

·          $2003.80 of that is going into our local grants program
·          $1001.90 to the global Burners Without Borders organization
·          $1001.90 saved for local volunteer project expenses and local disaster relief fund.

For information on our NEW LOCAL GRANTS PROGRAM, please visit http://bwbsea.com/65/16/grants.html. Note that the grant application deadline is November 1st!

I want to give a huge thanks to Trap Studios for hosting our event, the staff were amazing to work with, and the venue was a perfect location for making us feel like we weren't quite back to the default world for One More Night.  We wouldn't have been able to do this event without our amazing volunteers either: bartenders, door, setup, tear down, etc.  You help make it possible.  A shout out to the awesome folks from Lego Truck that also helped transform the outside area from lounge to dance floor.

We will be working on other events coming up soon, as well as ways that you can get involved locally in Burners Without Borders to help make a difference in our communities.  Follow us online at http://www.bwbsea.com and on Facebook at
http://www.facebook.com/bwbsea.

We have board positions open! Want to serve your local community? We are very active, and would love help. If you are interested, please write "president AT bwbsea DAWT com"
